iTunes for Windows: An unknown error occured (-50) - There was an error in the Music Store
Having McAfee Privacy Service or web acceleration software installed on your computer may prevent you from downloading music from the iTunes Music Store.
Symptom
The following alert appears when trying to download purchased music from the iTunes Music Store:
"We could not complete your Music Store request. An unknown error occurred (-50). There was an error in the Music Store. Please try again later."
Products affected
iTunes for Windows
McAfee Privacy Service
Web acceleration software
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Solution
Currently, McAfee Privacy Service and iTunes do not work well together. You will either need to download your music on a different computer or temporarily remove McAfee Privacy Service. The same symptom can occur with various web acceleration software that may be installed.
Use a different computer to download the music
If you have access to a computer that does not have McAfee Privacy Service installed, you can download the music files on that computer and copy them to your computer. See "iTunes for Windows: How to Copy Music Between Authorized Computers".
Remove McAfee Privacy Service from your computer
Instructions are available from the McAfee technical support website.
Internet filters, firewalls, or accelerators
See "Music Store - Using With Internet Filters or Accelerators" for tips to allow Internet filters, firewalls, and accelerators to work with the iTunes Music Store.
Tip: Once your purchased music is downloaded, you can reinstall McAfee Privacy Service again.
